A calmer checkout starts before the customer arrives

Prepare products, staff access and payment routines so the counter can keep moving during a busy day.
Prepare the counter before opening
Check that commonly sold products have readable barcodes, clear prices and the right variants. Test the scanner and printer you intend to use. Keep a short list of what to do if a device stops responding.
Sign in with the right store selected. If your business has several locations, an otherwise correct sale can still affect the wrong stock records when the wrong store is active.
Make staff access deliberate
Give each team member the access they need for their work. Decide who can approve discounts, refunds and stock adjustments before a busy period begins.
Avoid sharing an owner account across the counter. Individual access makes it easier to understand who completed a transaction and to remove access when someone leaves.
Confirm payment before completing the handover
Check the amount and payment method with the customer. For digital payments, use your own provider confirmation or transaction record rather than relying only on a screenshot on another device.
If a payment is uncertain, follow your provider’s reconciliation process. Repeatedly retrying without checking can create duplicate payments and a harder support problem.
Close the day with a short review
Compare your sales records with cash counted and payment-provider totals. Investigate differences while the team still remembers the transactions.
Review held bills, returns and unusual discounts. Write down the recurring sources of delay, then improve one part of the process at a time. A clear opening routine and a careful closing review make the next day easier.
